Which Window Film Is Right for Your Home? - HANITA Silver 20 XTR vs TITAN 20 XTR
If your home gets too hot in the Spanish sun, you have probably already discovered that there are several different solar window films available.
Two of our most popular exterior solar-control films are SILVER 20 XTR and TITAN 20 XTR.
Both are designed to reduce solar heat, glare and UV exposure. Both can be used on suitable single, double and triple glazing, and both can make a significant difference to the comfort of a property.
So what is the difference?
The simplest answer is:
SILVER 20 XTR is the more reflective option, while TITAN 20 XTR gives strong solar control with a much more discreet, non-mirrored appearance.
The right choice depends on what matters most to you: heat reduction, privacy, appearance, daylight, glare or maintaining the character of your property.
At a glance: Silver 20 XTR or TITAN 20 XTR?
The biggest difference is how the film looks from outside.
SILVER 20 XTR:
- Best for: Maximum privacy and strong solar control
- Ideal for: Villas, conservatories, large sunny windows
TITAN 20 XTR:
- Best for: Solar control without a mirrored appearance
- Ideal for: Modern homes, villas and properties where appearance matters

What is the difference between Silver 20 XTR and TITAN 20 XTR?
The biggest difference is how the film looks from outside.
HANITA SILVER 20 XTR
Silver 20 XTR has a reflective appearance. During daylight, it produces a mirror effect from the outside. This can be a major advantage if daytime privacy is important to you.
It also provides excellent solar control. Depending on the glazing, the specification shows up to 85% total solar energy rejection and 99% UV blocking.
Silver is often the choice when the priorities are:
- Maximum daytime privacy
- Strong solar control
- Significant glare reduction
- A reflective appearance
- Large areas of glass exposed to strong sunshine
HANITA TITAN 20 XTR
TITAN 20 XTR is designed for customers who want strong solar protection without the traditional mirrored appearance of Silver. It has a darker, more neutral appearance and is therefore often preferred where the homeowner wants the film to blend more naturally with the property.
Titan is often the choice when the priorities are:
- Strong solar control
- Less reflective appearance
- A more discreet or contemporary look
- Maintaining the architectural appearance of the property
- Reducing heat and glare without making the windows look highly mirrored
Which of both film keeps a room cooler?
Both films are designed to reject solar energy before it becomes unwanted heat inside the property. The exact result depends on the glass, orientation of the window, amount of direct sunlight, size of the glazing, surrounding shading and many other factors.
- According to the product specifications, Silver 20 XTR can reject up to approximately 85% of total solar energy, while TITAN 20 XTR can reject up to approximately 83%, depending on the glazing configuration.
So if your only question is:
“Which one rejects more solar energy, TITAN 20 or SILVER 20
- Silver has a slight advantage in the published specifications.
But that does not automatically mean Silver is the right film for every property.
Does Silver 20 XTR give better privacy then TITAN 20 XTR ?
Yes. This is one of the most important differences between the two films.
Silver 20 XTR has a reflective external appearance, which provides strong daytime privacy when the outside of the glass is brighter than the inside. TITAN also changes the appearance of the glass and can improve privacy, but it does not have the same pronounced mirror effect.
Important: window film does not provide 24-hour privacy
Like most reflective solar films, the privacy effect depends on lighting conditions. During the daytime, when the outside is brighter than the inside, Silver can make it much more difficult for people outside to see in. At night, if your interior is brightly lit and the outside is dark, the situation reverses.
If night-time privacy is important, we should discuss whether a solar film alone is the appropriate solution.
Does TITAN 20 XTR have a mirror effect?
This is one of its major advantages.
No traditional mirror effect from the outside.
TITAN 20 XTR is designed to provide strong solar control while maintaining a much more neutral and discreet appearance than Silver. That can be particularly attractive on modern villas, high-end properties or homes where you don't want the windows to have a strongly mirrored façade.
Which film is better for a modern villa?
This depends on the look you want.
If you want the maximum daytime privacy and don't mind a reflective appearance:
- SILVER 20 XTR may be the better choice.
If you want strong solar protection but want the windows to look more natural and understated:
- TITAN 20 XTR may be the better choice.
For many modern properties, TITAN is particularly attractive because it avoids the traditional mirrored appearance of reflective silver film. Look at the differences.
Which film is better for a conservatory?
Conservatories can be some of the hottest areas of a Spanish property because they often have large areas of glass exposed to direct sunlight. Both films can be suitable.
The more important questions are:
- How much direct sun does the conservatory receive?
- Is it south- or west-facing?
- How important is daytime privacy?
- Do you want a reflective appearance?
- How much natural light do you want to retain?
- What type of glass is installed?
For a conservatory where maximum daytime privacy and solar control are important, Silver 20 XTR can be an excellent option.
For a conservatory where you want solar protection without a strongly mirrored appearance, TITAN 20 XTR may be preferable.
Will the film make my rooms dark?
Both are relatively dark solar films, but "dark" and "uncomfortable" are not the same thing. The amount of visible light entering the room depends on the particular film and the existing glass.
- For Silver 20 XTR, the published visible-light transmission is approximately 17% with single glazing and 16% with double glazing.
- For TITAN 20 XTR, the published figures are approximately 21% with single glazing and 20% with double/triple glazing.
This means TITAN allows somewhat more visible light through than Silver in the published specifications. If retaining daylight is particularly important to you, we can also discuss lighter versions such as 35 or 50.
What does "20" mean?
The "20" relates to the film's visible light transmission category. It does not mean that the film only reduces heat by 20%. In simple terms, the 20 series is the darker option. Out of the Sun also offers 35 and 50 versions.
Generally:
- 20 = darkest / strongest solar-control appearance
- 35 = a balance between solar control and daylight
- 50 = lighter appearance / more daylight
The best choice depends on what you are trying to achieve.
Silver 20 XTR vs TITAN 20 XTR: Which looks better?
This is completely subjective, but there is a useful distinction.
Choose Silver if you like:
- A reflective appearance
- A stronger privacy effect
- A traditional solar-control film appearance
- A more obvious change to the exterior glass
Choose TITAN if you like:
- A darker but more neutral appearance
- A contemporary look
- Less reflection
- A more discreet finish
- Solar protection without a traditional mirror effect
If you are unsure, we recommend looking at photographs of completed installations and, where possible, seeing samples against your actual glass.
Which film is better for south-facing windows?
South-facing windows in Spain can receive very strong solar exposure, particularly during the summer.
Both Silver 20 XTR and TITAN 20 XTR are designed for strong solar control.
- If your priority is maximum solar rejection and daytime privacy, Silver is worth considering.
- If your priority is strong solar control without the mirrored appearance, TITAN may be the better solution.
The same principle applies to many west-facing windows, which can be particularly uncomfortable because of the intense afternoon sun.
Can window film reduce the use of air conditioning?
It can help reduce the amount of solar heat entering through the glass, which can reduce the cooling load on an air-conditioning system.
However, we do not promise a specific reduction in electricity consumption for every property. Every building is different.
The result depends on:
- Window size
- Glass type
- Window orientation
- Direct sunlight
- External shading
- Insulation
- Room size
- Existing air conditioning
- Indoor temperature
- How the property is used
The film's job is to reduce solar heat gain through the glass. It is not a replacement for insulation or air conditioning.
Solar Window Film in Winter in Spain: Does It Still Make Sense?
Yes. Solar window film can still be beneficial during winter in Spain, providing UV protection, reducing glare and helping protect your furniture and interiors from the sun.
However, because solar-control film reduces the amount of solar energy entering through the glass, it can also reduce some of the natural heat gained from winter sunshine, particularly on south-facing windows. For homes where winter heat loss is a major concern, a specialist Low-E film may be a better option.
The best choice depends on your property's window orientation, type of glass and whether your priority is reducing summer heat, retaining winter warmth, improving privacy or protecting your interiors.

What difference can solar window film make?
The results depend heavily on the individual property, so we don't believe in promising that every home will achieve the same temperature reduction.
However, our Spanish installations demonstrate why the correct film can make a substantial difference.
For example, one Out of the Sun installation using exterior solar film on large south-facing glazing recorded the temperature directly behind the glass falling from 55°C to 27°C, while the indoor room temperature fell from 36°C to 25°C. These were results from that particular property and should not be treated as a guarantee for every installation.
